David L. Adams
David has 20+ years of domestic and international strategy and business development experience in both Fortune 100 and entrepreneurial ventures. What’s important to David is family and being a contribution to others so they can fulfill on what’s important to them.
Besides being responsible for business development and marketing for Factory Automation at SICK, Inc., he co-founded The Vélo Project to equip leaders and teams to more effectively steward time through coaching, technology and development of new productivity habits. David has a BA from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and an MBA from Thunderbird in Phoenix, AZ.
Allishia Bauman is a proud Jacksonville, FL native, She is a graduate of Florida State College at Jacksonville and received her Bachelor’s Degree from The American Women's College at Bay Path University for Organizational and Leadership Studies. Currently in her fourth year at City Year Jacksonville, Allishia is now Chief of Staff. She is a board member for the Leading Ladies 904 group, a Leadership Jacksonville-Collegiate Experience alum, the co-host for this year's Eve Women's Summit, a current Delores Barr Weaver Fellow with the Women's Giving Alliance and the Executive Producer for TedxFSCJ. Allishia co-founded the #withlovejax and #withloveworld movement and was proud to give a Ted talk about the movement at the 2016 TedxFSCJ main event. Above all else she is a proud wife to her husband Joshua and a loving bonus mom to her 14 year old bonus daughter, Esperanza.
Sacha is a grateful dad, husband, and licensed master social worker in Houston, TX. Earning graduate degrees in Law and Social Policy as well as Social Work, he has dedicated his professional career to advocating for at-risk children and families in schools and communities. As a psycho-social therapeutic educator and mentor, he has received awards and recognition for his creative programming, compassionate relationship development, and enthusiastic community engagement. Sacha joined New Politics as a facilitator because he believes that our communities are strengthened when leaders exemplify the value of service and the appreciation of diversity.
Jasmine has dedicated her career to public service and higher education. She is on UC Berkeley staff where she works on initiatives to improve the student experience and academics. Previously, Jasmine spent six years with the federal government in Washington D.C. covering international affairs, capacity building, and travel programs. She served on the board of Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership among other diversity focused organizations. Jasmine holds a B.A. from UC Irvine and MBA from Georgetown. She currently lives in San Francisco, where she enjoys easy access to the great outdoors.
Damond Ford is a Richmond, VA native. Damond served with AmeriCorps in City Year New Hampshire for two years. During his second year of service Damond was awarded the Eli J and Phyllis N. Segal Bridge Builder Award. After his years of national service Damond joined the staff at City Year for three more years as an Impact Manager. He left City Year to join the SC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. While at the SC Coalition Damond help create the statewide manual for providing services to LGBTQIA survivors. Damond is now with the Mindful Advantage, a youth development non profit, as Regional Director. Damond lives in Charlotte, NC with his beautiful wife and two smart and strong daughters, Cleo and Reed.
Kristin Fox-Trautman is a consultant with 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector. She earned her BA from Rhodes College and her MA in Applied Anthropology from the University of Memphis. The focus of her work has been in education/youth development, with seven years spent as a VP for BRIDGES where she led a team of 10+ full-time/40+ part-time staff and AmeriCorps members who engaged 5,000+ youth annually. Her skills and experiences include strategic planning, grant writing, staff training/team building, program evaluation, program development, and cross-cultural community building. She loves living in Memphis with her husband and two daughters.
Sheila currently resides in Central Florida. She has a BA and MBA from Eastern University, with a combination of over 20 years’ experience in legal, higher education and non-profit. Her overall focus is housing. Lack of affordable housing-rental or purchase, is an issue negatively affecting individuals and families in her community. She believes that having an adequate home is the foundation for everything else in life. She continues to build on her knowledge, skills and training by continually educating herself in housing and other issues relevant to the community as a whole. She facilitates trainings in the community in order to raise awareness of housing rights.
Maya’s career has focused on building personal and professional talent through leadership training. As Senior Director at the Coro New York Leadership Center, Maya manages the Leadership New York program and has participated in the organization's strategic planning and culture development. Maya is committed to Coro’s mission of building an equitable, just and engaged society and developing savvy, sophisticated change agents for NYC. Maya earned a self-designed BA (cum laude) from Dominican University and was competitively selected for the National Urban Fellowship to earn a Master’s degree in Public Administration (valedictorian) from CUNY/Baruch College. Maya is a proud AmeriCorps alumna.
Ron Gubitz is a lifelong educator who infuses his love of music into his work with young people. He is the Leadership Coach for the Turnaround Arts program with The Kennedy Center. From 2011-2016, he served as principal of ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy in New Orleans, leading the Pre-K through 4th grade academy. A graduate of Indiana University, Ron began his career in St. Louis teaching high school English. He founded an AP program, and the first high school chapter of Hip Hop Congress, using hip hop as an educational medium to promote youth voice and expression. Ron is dedicated to making sure New Orleans stays funky.
Calvin Guyer is a consultant and small business coach with a 30+ year career as a military officer and in various roles within the financial services sector. He earned his BS in
Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University and his MS in Electrical Engineering from Wright State University. He is a Certified Financial Planner and received his formal coach training from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC). For the last five years he has worked with small and emerging businesses on team leadership and organizational structure issues. He is certified in and conducts workshops on Emotional Intelligence and adapts those concepts in his facilitation and coaching practice. He continuously looks to use his Strengths of Learner, Responsibility, Beliefs, Harmony, and Analytical in his life’s work. Calvin is married, a father of four, and resides in Rochester, MN.
Megan Heron is originally from Pennsylvania, and earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Journalism from the University of Florida.Currently residing in Memphis, TN, Megan has worked with City Year in San Antonio and Memphis for the past 8 years. Throughout her life Megan has been passionate about education and volunteerism. She has worked as a tutor for elementary through high school students, volunteered as a reading buddy and has been a proud Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters for the past 6 years. Megan also holds certifications in Youth Development and Nonprofit Management, and hopes to return to school for her Master’s in Public Administration.
Samantha Joseph is a mid-career MPA student at the Harvard Kennedy School and a Zuckerman Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership. Previously, Samantha worked at the Cambridge Innovation Center where she developed innovation districts throughout the United States. Samantha also built the corporate responsibility function at Iron Mountain, where she managed all philanthropic, environmental and diversity programs. Samantha has an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a BA from Brandeis University.
Kara Kelty grew up believing in the power of public service to improve the lives of others, particularly children. A former two-term city council member, Kara has worked within the political arena to make sustainable changes in quality early childhood education, affordable housing, economic empowerment, and environmental protection. Kara received a B. A. in Political Science from Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and her Master’s degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. Kara began her career as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines and continued her service in Guatemala where she met her husband. A mother to two children, Kara currently serves as a school board member in her community and is passionate about ensuring all children have the opportunity to realize their full potential. Kara is a Manager at Leadership for Educational Equity where she coaches others to become more politically and civically engaged.
Lisa works at City Year Headquarters in Boston and is an alumna of City Year Chicago. After serving as an Americorps member, Lisa taught English abroad in China for one year and then in Bosnia-Herzegovina through a Fulbright grant. These experiences, along with her undergraduate studies in government, have informed her interest in civic engagement. She started as a facilitator for Answering the Call in January 2017. Lisa lives in Boston with her husband and their black lab. In any spare time she enjoys reading, baking, traveling, taking photos, and sporadically knitting.
Behrad Mahdi is a public sector business strategist and entrepreneurial manager. He is currently a Solution Partner with Forrester Government, the public sector division of one of the most influential technology research and advisory firms in the world. Previously, Behrad served as Interim COO for a Federal contracting analytics platform and Principal at Censeo Consulting Group where he specialized in the field of organizational effectiveness, cost reduction, and program implementation.
Behrad’s civic engagement spans both non-profit and political organizations. He served as a Development Director and Special Assistant to the CEO of City Year, Inc. He held operative roles in the 2002 California Gubernatorial Election, 2000 Republican Convention, 2004 Democratic Convention, and the 2004 Massachusetts State Legislature. Behrad was born and raised in the Midwest. He received his B.A. in Mathematics and Politics from Oberlin College (2004), an MBA from Harvard Business School (2010), and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School (2010).
Dr. Sydney Merz
Sydney Merz is a Nebraskan native who served two tours with the United States Peace Corps in Armenia (2006-08) and the Philippines (2008-10) as a teacher and teacher educator. She has been politically active since the age of 5, marching in local parades and placing signs for local, state and national campaigns. She has worked in higher education as a teacher educator and student affairs professional, as well as the American Civics Center as the Program Manager. Syd received her Ph.D. in Education from George Mason University, and currently serves as the Learning and Evaluation Director for City Year Cleveland.
Beth Morrow is an instructor at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as a consultant and project manager in the nonprofit community. She works on strategic planning, change management, collective impact, and startup initiatives.
Morrow previously served as associate dean for the College of Leadership & Public Service at Lipscomb, which includes the Institutes for Conflict Management, Civic Leadership, Sustainable Practice, and Law, Justice & Society. Together with teams of expert trainers, facilitators and interventionists, she specializes in coaching and promoting conflict competency to professionals at every level.
Laura G. Perez was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies, Child Development emphasis, and a Certificate in ChicanX and LatinX Studies from UW-Madison. Laura served as a Senior Corps Member with City Year Milwaukee from 2010-2012. She then worked as an educator for Milwaukee College Prep, 38th Street from 2012-2016. In 2016, Laura returned to City Year Milwaukee as the Special Projects Manager and completed her time serving as the CYMKE Alumni Board Chair from 2013-2017. Laura is currently the Talent Specialist at Seton Catholic Schools and volunteers with Common Ground WI.
Chris Potter is an impact manager at City Year New Hampshire, leading a team of volunteer tutors and role models. Chris is also involved in a number of local organizations, including Granite State Organizing Project and the Episcopal Church, where he is in discernment to be ordained a Deacon. Based on a belief in the power of community to positively affect individual behavior, Chris is committed to staying in Manchester and working to foster a more equitable and inclusive society there.
Jeffery Rhodes has spent his career inspiring others to action. He has worked for the last 8 years as an HR/recruiting professional for the Peace Corps. Prior to that, he worked for the City of Chicago's bicycle program; conducting community outreach and bike safety education for Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Park District. Jeff began his career as a Community Health Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Zambia from 2005-2007. Jeff received a dual degree in Political Science and Journalism from Ohio University in 2004. Jeff was born and raised in Washington, PA, a coal-mining town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and spent his youth communing with nature. Jeff spends his free time mentoring first-generation college students, riding his bike around the city, hosting weekly pub trivia, and playing soccer.
Pamela Seigle is Executive Director of Courage & Renewal Northeast at Wellesley College. She co-developed Leading Together, the Center for Courage & Renewal’s program bringing principals and teacher-leaders together to learn reflective and mindfulness practices and build adult relational trust in their schools. Pamela founded Open Circle® at the Wellesley Centers for Women. Open Circle is a leading provider of evidence-based curriculum and professional development for social emotional learning. Since 1987, Open Circle has reached over two million students and 13,000 educators. Pamela has served on many nonprofit boards, including as a Trustee of the Boston Public Library.
Robb Schachter is a longtime business owner in the tennis industry and has previously worked in finance. He is also the Chair of the United States Tennis Association New England Player Development Committee and is dedicated to promoting healthy participation in youth sports. He is excited to be a part of New Politics because he believes in the power of individuals to effect real change when they are deeply connected to their values. Robb has a BA in Economics from Brandeis University, an MBA from Babson College, and is currently pursuing a PsyD in Organization and Leadership Psychology at William James College. He lives in the Boston area with his wife, and two children.
Sally believes that civic activism and social entrepreneurship are key to creating the world in which we all seek to live. Originally from Oregon, she attended Whitman College, and has earned two Masters degrees since (University of Hawaii - Masters in Ed; University of Colorado - Masters in Public Administration). She brings experience in education and business from her tenure with Teach for America Hawai`i and Google, respectively. In 2011, Sally founded Academy 360, an elementary charter school designed to close the achievement gaps and address health disparities in Montbello, an undeserved neighborhood in Denver, CO. She is now pursuing a Renaissance life of writing, travel, entrepreneurship, educational consulting, political activism, and teaching at the university level.
Hana's career is hallmarked with 12 years of service in 5 countries, 3 states, and 1 district. Most recently she served 4 years with Peace Corps as a Community and Economic Development Volunteer working with local government in the Republic of Macedonia, including cross-border collaboration with local governments in Albania and Greece. Prior to that, she served with AmeriCorps in Seattle, New York City, and as coordinator of University of Denver's CampusCompact AmeriCorps program. Hana holds two B.A.s from Seattle University and a Master's of International Administration from University of Denver. She currently works with the federal government in Washington D.C. and is co-facilitator for the Honest Racial Dialogue community group that meets weekly in her neighborhood.
Will Tucker grew up in Newton, MA, and received his B.A. in Government and Legal Studies from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. After college he worked on the field team of a statewide campaign in Massachusetts and in policy advocacy with a Boston-area nonprofit, later moving to D.C. to work for Congressman Joe Kennedy III, his hometown rep., and in the Grassroots practice of Dewey Square Group. Will is now a Senior Associate in Advocom Group’s Washington, D.C. office, where he specializes in government affairs. He’s a proud advocate for mental health issues, and loves the Red Sox to an arguably abnormal degree.

Lynn Williams worked in media, marketing, and communications throughout her career, until turning her focus to public policy and advocacy. A fifth-generation Nashvillian, she served on the city’s Metro Council for two terms (1999-2007) and retired under term limits. She worked as a grassroots organizer for a national health care association, mobilizing and registering voters in eight Southeastern states, and is currently state director of government relations for a national non-profit organization, in Tennessee. She is a trained conflict mediator, and holds a BA and MS in Mass Communication.
Susanna Williams is an independent management consultant in Brooklyn, New York, focused on workforce development. She received a BA in politics from Earlham College, where she was a Bonner Scholar, and a MS in education from Bank Street College of Education, where she was an America Reads tutor. Susanna was the campaign manager for a mayoral race and a state legislative race, as well as chair of the 37th District Democrats in Seattle, before returning to New York City in 2014. Her goal is to slowly run a 5K every month this year.
